College Honors Program

Learn about the Sixth College Honors Program. 

Courses for the Sixth College Honors Program will not be offered in the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Sixth College Honors Program:

  • Nurtures high-achieving students academically, intellectually, and socially
  • Increases students' awareness about opportunities of academic, social, and cultural engagement
  • Motivates students to become community leaders at Sixth College, at UCSD, and in communities outside the University

The Sixth College provost and Sixth College associated faculty mentor and guide honors students through seminars, research, social, and cultural events, introducing students to the academic, cultural, artistic, and social richness of the campus.

Participants in the Honors Program include:

  • New freshmen who have distinguished themselves academically in their high schools
  • New freshmen who complete at least 12 graded units with a 3.7 cumulative GPA during their first quarter at UCSD
  • Second-year honors students who maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5

Students must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA to remain in the Honors Program.


Qualifications for Freshman Honors Sequence

    • To be invited you must have accomplished the following:
      1. High school grade point average of 3.8 or higher
      2. College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores of 700 or above in math, writing, and reading/ comprehension
    • If you have fulfilled these qualifications, you are invited to enroll in SXTH 20 Freshmen Honors Seminar (0 units) for the Fall Quarter.

Qualifications for Sophomore Honors Sequence

    • Second-year honors students who maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 are invited to join the Sophomore Honors Sequence.
    • Options for sophomore honors students include:
      1. Enrolling in SXTH 96 Sixth College Honors Apprentice Research Program/ Honors Project (2 units)
        AND/ OR
      2. Enrolling in SXTH 60 Sophomore Honors Seminar (1 unit), covering issues pertaining to technology, society, and the arts.
