Studying abroad as a Biology major can be quite difficult, but it's possible! CAPA was an amazing program because not only did I get to study abroad, I got to intern abroad in my field of choice! I worked in a biochem lab in a world-renowned medical school, worked with other interns from around the UK and Europe, and landed a letter of recommendation from the professor I worked under. With this internship, I fulfilled my practicum requirement while getting valuable work experience. It has opened my eyes to what the world has to offer, and a whole new lifestyle. London 2012 was the best summer of my life, and has reaffirmed that I want to work and live there after I graduate from UCSD. Studying abroad has been an amazing experience, and I only regret not doing it earlier so I could do it more!

My time abroad has widened my horizons more than I could have ever imagined. I can truly say that this was the most inspiring year of my life, and the insight I’ve gotten on the world and I as a person has changed dramatically by my time abroad. I can now see my world from a holistic point of view, and with the morals, network, and experiences I’ve gathered my time abroad, I feel prepared to take on the world after graduation. I feel that as a global citizen I’m more cognizant of different cultures and beliefs, as well as adaptable to different locations. The people I met and places I’ve been will stay with me forever.

Studying abroad is definitely the best experience I've had in college, probably the reason I decided to go twice. There's nothing quite like being in a foreign country, surrounded by people from all over the world, all as happy to be there as you are. I've learned so much about the world, my host country, and myself during the experience. I feel like I can go anywhere and do anything after studying abroad, it’s life-changing.

Going abroad was like living inside of a dream world for over 5 months. While I studied abroad I was able to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef, hang out with kangaroos, go skydiving in New Zealand, horseback ride through Lord of the Rings territory, lay on the beach in Fiji, drive on the opposite side of the road and car, tour the Sydney Opera House, and make friendships that will last a lifetime. My time in Australia is something I will always treasure and miss. It was an experience that helped me grow up and become the person I want to be. Studying abroad is something that I would recommend to any person of any major, so what if you end up doing summer school because of it. I promise, you won't regret a minute of it.

Studying abroad has easily been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The decision to go abroad and the process to get there can be daunting and scary, but it's worth it the minute you step off the airplane a world away from home and realize that your life is about to change forever. Holland is a gorgeous country that is often overlooked when choosing a study abroad location. It may not be as popular as Italy or Spain, but what it lacks in reputation it makes up for in ambiance. Beauty abounds in rolling green hills and quaint canals. Utrecht is a friendly city with an old heart eager to welcome the adventurous traveler and inquisitive student. I could not have asked for a better place to spend five months. There is absolutely no reason not to study in a foreign country. Not only do you grow both intellectually and personally, you have FUN in the process. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself! The world is waiting.

Studying abroad treated me in a way I don't think I could get from just studying at UCSD all four years, well at least not without great effort. A memory of China that I will always treasure is when our teachers took us out to karaoke. It's something that I thought I would ever do in a lifetime. Let me start off by saying, Chinese people certainly love their karaoke, over there pronounced "ka-la-OK". I'm not much of a singer and when our oral speaking teacher, Andy Woo emphasized that singing was one of his favorite pastimes, I cringed, but we as a group had the courage to ask our teachers out. The night ended being so much fun, and seriously, Andy really knows his Lady Gaga. The teachers were also super excited to find out that we knew some Chinese songs as well. At that point, it definitely helped students become more comfortable with our teachers who frankly weren't even that much older than us. Teachers weren't shy to ask about America and were always so honest when answering our questions about China. They were all just sincere, genuine people and we were extremely lucky to have them included in our study abroad experience.
