Welcome to Sixth College! My name is Melissa Silverman and I am one of the Assistant Directors of Residence Life here to help you throughout your time at UCSD. I am a San Diego native, and I went to UC Irvine as undergraduate where I earned my degree in Psychology and Social Behavior with a minor in Education. After I graduated, I returned to San Diego to attend San Diego State University for my Masters degree in Higher Education. I’ve worked at a variety of other colleges in Southern California, and I’m excited to be here at UCSD working in Residence Life.
There will be a lot of highs and lows throughout your college experience, and I hope to be a resource as you navigate it all. I strongly believe that college should be a holistic experience with growth both inside and outside of the classroom. I encourage you to get involved, try something new, and push your comfort zone. College is a wonderful time to challenge yourself and explore your interests, identities, and values.
In my free time, I love traveling and exploring new places. I spend a lot of time at Disneyland as I’ve been an Annual Passholder since my first year in college. I’m definitely a foodie with a sweet tooth for macarons and cupcakes. Overall, I’m excited to be back in San Diego to reconnect with the city, culture, and of course the beach!
