Sixth Suppers

Learn the steps for hosting a Sixth Supper, where undergraduates and faculty can share an informal meal and conversation.

Sixth Suppers are designed to bring together undergraduate students and faculty to share a meal and spend time together in an informal, out-of-classroom setting.

  1. Pre-plan the event.

    1. Determine your budget. Sixth College Student Affairs will only reimburse costs for meal ingredients. Reimbursable costs are limited to $10 per participant, not to exceed $100 per event.
    2. With your budget in mind, decide how many people you would like to invite. Either students or faculty can extend an invitation for a Sixth Supper.
    3. Contact the people you would like to invite.
    4. Decide when and where to hold the event, for example:
      • Residence hall kitchen
      • The Lodge (map)
      • The Dogg House (map)
      • The Sixth College Commuter Center (map)
      • A faculty member's home
    5. Choose an activity to enjoy during or after dinner:
      • Discuss a topic of interest
      • Watch a movie and discuss it
      • Make music together
      • Learn a skill together
  2. Organize the event.

    1. Complete the Sixth Suppers event request form (PDF) for funding and submit to Yvette Durazo, assistant to the dean, at Sixth College Student Affairs, Pepper Canyon Hall (map), second floor.
    2. Reserve the venue. For more information, see Reserve a Sixth College Space.
    3. Shop for meal ingredients or make other arrangements for the meal.
    4. Request cooking equipment from Sixth College, if necessary.
    5. Send an e-mail or make a phone call confirming the event to those who will be attending.
  3. Follow up after the event.

    1. Submit appropriate receipts to the Sixth Front Desk in Pepper Canyon Hall (map). You will also be asked to fill out a reimbursement form. A University check will be made payable to you in 3 to 6 weeks.
    2. Provide the following to Yvette Durazo, assistant to the dean of student affairs, (858) 822-5953:
      • A list of event attendees, including full names and e-mail addresses.
      • A brief evaluation (PDF) of the event from each participant (submit within two days following the Sixth Supper).
      • A mandatory digital photograph of event participants taken during the event.
    3. Send a thank you note to participants.
If you have questions, contact Yvette Durazo, assistant to the dean of student affairs, (858) 822-5953.
