First Year Student Timeline

Welcome to Sixth College! We are so pleased you have decided to join the Sixth College community at the University of California, San Diego. The faculty, students, and staff are proud to welcome you as a member of the youngest and most innovative college at UC San Diego.

It is critical that you adhere to the timeline below in order to ensure a smooth transition to UC San Diego. This timeline provides information about signing up for the Sixth College mandatory on-campus orientation, and a detailed list of steps you will need to follow to receive academic advising and to successfully enroll in courses for the fall quarter.

Fall 2009 Enrollment and Orientation Timeline

May 13 - July 31

Login to the New Student Gateway at http://newstudent.ucsd.edu to register for the MANDATORY, two-day on-campus Student Orientation Program.

May 13 - July 31

Help your family register for the optional (but highly encouraged), one-day Parent/Family Orientation Program; access through the New Student Gateway or go to http://newparent.ucsd.edu.


June 9

4.

Housing and Dining Services sends out housing instructional email regarding how to access your contract online. Contact Housing and Dining Services if you do not receive an email shortly after June 9.

June 30

5.

Signed housing contract and $650 prepayment due date.

July 6 - 24

Login to the New Student Gateway http://newstudent.ucsd.edu to complete the "My Academic Information" section. This information is needed by your Academic Counselor to recommend your classes for the fall quarter.

August 1 - September 15 Take the e-CHUG assessment by September 15. The University of California, San Diego has a commitment to an environment where healthy and responsible choices are supported and the norm. In an effort to keep students well-informed and aware of their choices, and the environment in which they make such choices, all new students must complete the anonymous e-CHUG assessment by September 15. Go to http://studenthealth.ucsd.edu and click on the "e-CHUG" button and follow the simple instructions.  

August 3

Check on TritonLink to find out your course enrollment appointment time.

August 17 - 28

Login to the New Student Gateway and go to the "My Enrollment" section. You will receive your recommended fall course schedule based on the academic information you provided in July.

Familiarize yourself with the Sixth College Academic resources listed below to understand what courses will be recommended by your Academic Counselor.

Develop a class schedule (or alternate schedule) you would like to discuss with your academic counselor during E-Advising, August 17-28.

Your Academic Counselor will be available to answer any academic questions via E-Advising regarding your fall course enrollment ONLY.

Access the E-Advising tab in the New Student Gateway at http://newstudent.ucsd.edu.

Year-long planning, double major, minor, etc. will not be discussed during the E-advising process. Once fall quarter begins, you will be able to schedule an appointment with an Academic Counselor to discuss your academic plans.

August 25 - 30

Online enrollment period - All new first-year students will have enrollment appointments randomly assigned between August 25 and August 30.


IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU ENROLL AT YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME AND NO LATER THAN AUGUST 30 AS ENROLLMENT FOR ALL OTHER UCSD STUDENTS WILL RESUME ON AUGUST 31.

Not enrolling in classes at your enrollment appointment time may prevent you from securing seats in classes

Please note you cannot change your enrollment appointment time- no exceptions.

Early September

Sixth College Residential Life sends out room assignment letters.

September 16

Move-In Day for first-year students living on-campus.

17 - 18

MANDATORY on-campus student Orientation.

Optional Parent and Family Orientation (one day only).

19 - 26
