If you can't find a current Sixth College Student Organization that interests you, consider starting a new one. It's rewarding and a great way to connect with other Sixth College students who share similar interests.
- Meet with the coordinator of student activities.
- Contact Jenelle Dean, coordinator of student activities, (858) 822-3511.
- When you meet with Jenelle, you'll go over the process for forming a new Sixth College student organization.
- Identify founding members of the organization.
- Find other students interested in participating in your organization.
Note: You must identify at least 2 other students as principal members to form a new organization.
- Complete the required paperwork.
- Complete the Student Organization Registration Form (PDF).
- Develop a constitution for your organization using the sample constitution (PDF) provided by Sixth College.
- Review your constitution with Jenelle.
- Meet with the Dean of Student Affairs.
- Contact Yvette Durazo, assistant to the dean, (858) 822-5953, to make an appointment with Dean James Stascavage.
- Present your constitution during the appointment.
- Revise the constitution as necessary to obtain the dean's approval.
- Attend a Student Organization Success Workshop.
- Register for a workshop by contacting Jenelle Dean.
- Make sure your principal members register for the workshop, too. At least 50% but no fewer than 2 members must attend.
- Hold an interest meeting to announce your organization and recruit members.
- Select a date, time, and location for the meeting.
- Publicize the meeting through flyers and class announcements. Begin advertising at least 1 week before the meeting.
- At the meeting, explain your organization's goals and discuss proposed activities.
- Get others excited about being a part of your new organization!
