For anyone who qualifies for a vaccination in the current tiers but has not yet been vaccinated, please register on California’s MyTurn website or check the CDC’s VaccineFinder website for the best appointment to meet your needs.

CAT 125R Summer Session 1 - Public Rhetoric, Personal Narrative, & the Politics of Voice
In the most literal sense, the voice is merely an audible sound wave that moves from one person's vocal cords to another person's ear. More commonly, we understand the voice as a conveyor of meaning- a meaning that is somehow attached to the individual speaking. Can the idea of voice also describe the style of an author, or the point of view of an artist? What does this expanded definition of the voice mean in the context of history and society, where our voices and our stories are bound to systems of power and inequality? This public communication course will explore these questions as we examine self-sxpression in the public sphere.

CAT 125R Summer Session 1 - Public Rhetoric, Communication, and Care
From the role of storytelling within a doctor/patient relationship to the historicity of medicine itself, this public rhetoric and practical communication course will explore intersections of healing, language, care, and culture. Through critiquing these sites of overlap, we’ll cultivate our own writing and communication skills while also exploring our own relationships to care. Readings may include works by Audre Lorde, Anne Boyer, Silvia Federici, Rita Charon, and Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha.
