Award Descriptions

The Dean’s Award for Leadership and Service

The Dean’s Award for Leadership and Service is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence, outstanding leadership, and significant service contributions to Sixth College through academic and/or co-curricular activities.  The award recipient will have demonstrated leadership and active participation within the Sixth College community.

The Teal Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior

The Teal Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior is awarded to a graduating senior who has contributed to positive community building in Sixth College through creativity and innovation, has helped create or has contributed to Sixth College traditions, and has shown a remarkable level of dedication and service to Sixth College.

The Alumni Association Outstanding Student Award

The Alumni Association Outstanding Student Award is awarded to a graduating senior who has 1) achieved academic excellence (minimum of 3.0 GPA) and 2) has brought distinction to Sixth College and UCSD through leadership, service, civic engagement, and involvement in the campus and San Diego community. 

Outstanding Transfer Student Award

The Outstanding Transfer Student award is awarded to a graduating senior who has made significant contributions to the Sixth College and UCSD transfer communities through outreach and demonstrated leadership to meet the specific needs of transfer students on the UCSD campus. 

Oceanids Service and Leadership Award

The Oceanids Service and Leadership Award is awarded to a student in Junior class standing (90 credits completed) who has demonstrated leadership and service to the UCSD campus community at the college or campus-wide level.  Examples of such service might include, but are not limited to, significant contributions  of service to UCSD through student organizations, Athletics, campus-wide Advisory Boards, or student government.

PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THROUGH EACH AWARD DESCRIPTION TO ENSURE THAT YOU QUALIFY FOR THE AWARD.

What do you need to apply?

What to expect:

  • You will need a copy of your resume
  • be prepared to answer 2 essay questions
    • Please describe in detail the contributions you have made to Sixth College, UCSD, and the San Diego community that qualify you for this award?  How have your contributions benefited the Sixth College and the UCSD community?  (If you are applying for the Outstanding Transfer Student Award, please also describe your specific contributions to that campus community).
    • Please describe your Sixth College and UCSD Campus involvement in co-curricular activities, academic scholarship and achievement, and campus and community service engagement.

  • You will be asked provide a letter of reference that can speak to your accomplishments as they pertain to the award criteria

Award Application

The application and your letter of reference are due no later than Monday, May 1st at 11:59pm.

Please be sure to fully read through the award descriptions prior to applying.

Sixth College Student Leadership Award Application

As part of your application, you are required to submit a letter of reference.  Letters of reference should be completed by a professional staff member, faculty member, or community member who can speak to your qualifications for the award to which you are applying.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to send the link below to the person completing their letter of reference.
