How do we write narratives and remember our past? Whether deliberately or not, all of us write stories and draw mental maps that give structure to our histories. We believe these stories and pass them down from generation to generation as our truths, but we also understand that each of these narratives is subjective and personal.
This class will look at this process of history-making from various angles. In particular, we will examine a wide range of historical artifacts, including samples from art, music, architecture, literature, and more. In particular, we will think about how technology mediates memory, and of how changes in that technology transform our understanding of the past.
