Peer Advising Column

Taylor Koshiol

Hi there! My name is Taylor Koshiol, and I'm a first-gen college student in my fourth year at UCSD, studying Cognitive Science Design and Interaction. I'm interested in all things design, programming, and user research! This is my third year serving as a Peer Advisor for Sixth College, and I am so excited about wrapping up my time at UCSD with more fun Advising tabling and events. I'm also a research assistant for the UCSD Comparative Cognition Lab and a Dialogue for Peace Student Fellow. Below you can find weekly tips, advice, and more from me!

Week 9 5/25 - 5/29

PREPARING FOR THE END OF SPRING QUARTER!

Hi Sixers! The end of the Spring quarter is rapidly approaching! If you’re planning to graduate this Spring, make sure you are prepared before the quarter ends!
If you’re planning to graduate:
Register for Commencement By MAY 29, 2026!
If you want to walk in a commencement ceremony this Spring, make sure you register before the deadline.
Student registration closes Friday, May 29, 2026. Undergraduate students with 135+ units by the end of the winter quarter, and graduates of Fall 2025 or Winter/Spring/Summer 2026, can participate in UC San Diego's 2026 Commencement.
To register, visit commencement.ucsd.edu

File Your DDA!
While you may have registered for commencement, you must file to graduate via the Degree and Diploma Application (DDA) Wizard by the end of Spring Quarter. The last day to file a Degree and Diploma Application (DDA) is the Friday of Finals Week of Spring Quarter 2026, 6/12/26.
If you’re continuing in the Fall:
Run Your Degree Audit
While you’re waiting to choose your classes for Fall 2026, use the extra time to run your degree audit and make sure you’re on track, and see what requirements you need to complete still. Your degree audit allows you to see the progress you have made toward your degree, as well as courses you have completed toward a minor and your college GE requirements. This can be extremely helpful when considering what to take next quarter, and it's important to check this regularly to ensure you’re on track for graduation.

Meet With Your Advisor
If you’re not sure if you’re on the right track, thinking about making a change, want help building your 4 year plans or just need some guidance, schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor to get the help you need! Use the Virtual Advising Center and choose Sixth College to Ask a Question, attend Drop-In Advising, or Schedule a 30-minute Appointment to meet one on one with an Academic Advisor, in-person or on Zoom.
