Emergency Information
- The UC Police Department is available 24/7/365 at 911.
- University Safety Officials (USOs) patrol the campus each night from 8P - 5A.
- A professional Residence Life staff member is on call 24/7/365 and can be dispatched via the Resident Assistant on-call or the UC Police Department.
- Campus-wide emergency evacuation locations.
- Catalyst & Mosaic buildings evacuate to the East Lawn.
- Kaleidoscope & Tapestry buildings evacuate to the West Lawn.
- If you have a disability that would affect your ability to respond to an emergency, work with the Office for Students with Disabilities and Housing*Dining*Hospitality Liasion to develop your Individualized Emergency Evacuation Plan.
- Get campus emergency information , register for emergency notifications from campus, and download the Alert San Diego Emergency app.
General Safety
- View the UC San Diego Environment, Health, and Safety Emergency Guide for all official emergency procedures.
Fire
- If you hear a fire alarm (i.e., bells and recorded voice announcement), leave the building immediately, locking your door behind you.
- Go to the nearest staircase and walk to the ground floor. Do not use the elevator.
- If you are unable to evacuate due to a disability, the elevator lobby on each floor is designated as an area of refuge for you to shelter-in-place while awaiting evacuation from fire/life/safety officials.
- Exit the building and gather with others on your floor at the emergency evacuation location . Catalyst & Mosaic buildings evacuate to the East Lawn. Kaleidoscope & Tapestry buildings evacuate to the West Lawn.
- In a major emergency, attendance will be taken so that each person's whereabouts is known.

Assist Others: Help those with mobility issues or other needs evacuate safely
- Do not return to the building until cleared by University staff to do so.
- Know your resources ahead of time
- Make note of the fire extinguishers so you'll know where they are in case you need to use one.
- Read/watch How to Use a Fire Extinguisher.
- Monitor emergency alerts and updates via Triton Alert. Wait for official communication before resuming activities.
Earthquake
- If you are indoors, stay away from windows.
- Get under sturdy furniture, or stand in an interior corner or doorway.
- In a major earthquake, after shaking has stopped, go to the nearest staircase and walk to the ground floor. Do not use the elevator.
- If you are unable to evacuate due to a disability, the elevator lobby on each floor is designated as an area of refuge for you to shelter-in-place while awaiting evacuation from fire/life/safety officials.
- Exit the building and gather with others on your floor at the emergency evacuation location . Catalyst & Mosaic buildings evacuate to the East Lawn. Kaleidoscope & Tapestry buildings evacuate to the West Lawn.

Assist Others: Help those with mobility issues or other needs evacuate safely.
- Do not return to the building until cleared by University staff to do so.
- When the shaking has stopped, walk to a staircase and exit the building.
- Expect aftershocks. These tremors are usually weaker than the initial earthquake, but they may still be strong enough to cause damage.
- Stay vigilant for aftershocks or additional earthquakes up to 48 hours after the initial event.
- Monitor emergency alerts and updates via Triton Alert. Wait for official communication before resuming activities.
Loss of Power
- Remain in your room or common area. Emergency lighting and power to essential systems should initialize. Use a flashlight / your phone for light.
- Report the power outage to UC Police Dispatch at 858-534-4357.
- If trapped in an elevator, use the emergency button to request assistance.
- Keep refrigerators/freezers closed to prevent food spoilage.
- If necessary, exit the building and gather with others on your floor at the emergency evacuation location . Catalyst & Mosaic buildings evacuate to the East Lawn. Kaleidoscope & Tapestry buildings evacuate to the West Lawn.
