Returning to the University

Students who have not been enrolled in classes at UC San Diego for two or more consecutive quarters submit a Request to Return to initiate their return to the University. Please refer to the Returning to UC San Diego After an Absence page for the Request to Return application filing periods. These deadlines are strictly enforced and no exceptions will be made.

If you have been absent from the University for only one quarter, you are considered a continuing student. Please proceed to WebReg.

The return process is dependent on how you left the University:

Left in Good Academic Standing

  1. Address any holds on your record that may prevent return or enrollment.
  2. File a university Request to Return Application and pay the required fee.
    1. The Registrar's Office will send a request to return approval notification to your email.
  3. Send official transcripts of all work completed at other institutions to the UC San Diego Admissions Office.

  5. If approved, the Registrar's Office will send a request to return approval notification to your email.
  6. Send official transcripts of all work completed at other institutions (if applicable) to the UC San Diego Admissions Office.
  7. You will return to the University in the same academic status in which you left.

Academically Disqualified

Disqualified students are eligible to submit a request to return after taking one academic year away from UC San Diego. Requests to return after disqualification are available once per year for Fall Quarter only.

  6. Check the Virtual Advising Center for any requests for information and/or updates from Academic Advising.
  7. Once your Readmission Proposal is approved, file the university Readmission Application and pay the required fee before the deadline.
