SPOTLIGHTS

15th Anniversary Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Celebration
Our theme this year, Empowering Community Through Reflection and Recognition, is a call for action that begins with increasing awareness, visibility, and acknowledging the lived experiences, perseverance, and joy of Asian Pacific Islander Americans (APIA), past and ongoing. Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in the United States have endured centuries of targeted systemic racism/discrimination, xenophobia, and aggressions; such actions have been notably amplified amid the current pandemic. Our APIA communities continue to push for civil rights, peace, and solidarity.

COVID-19 Grief and Loss Support Forum
1 in 3 Americans lost a loved one to coronavirus this year too. We are faced with unimaginable loss but because this is “our new reality” many of us have not yet coped with the trauma of suddenly losing someone you love. Contemporary media is flooded with staggering death statistics, Coronavirus non-believers, and anti-mask/anti-vaccine rhetoric from everyone ranging from major news outlets to old family friends. Everywhere we go we are unable to escape being triggered, yet we are asked to resume life like it is “the new normal?” This isn’t normal… but your feelings are. We have to stop and remind ourselves that behind every statistic is a father, a lover, a grandmother, a friend. We aren’t just a number, and we deserve to heal.
This meeting is not professional counseling. If you would like professional counseling or mental health treatment please call the CAPS central office at (858) 534-3755 to arrange an appointment. For questions or accommodations please contact WOMEN@UCSD.EDU
