When Should I Be Moved Out?

Housing Contracts end on June 13, 2026 at 3PM (PST). Students should plan to move-out within 24 hours of their last final or by June 13, 2026 at your floor's designated move out time.

Move-Out Instructions

Once you have fully cleared your room and common spaces of personal belongings, make sure that your residential space is clean.

Then, follow the steps below to ensure a smooth check out process.

1. Drop off your Key at the HI Desk

During business hours:

Stop by the HI Desk and handoff your key and any temp cards to an employee to complete your move-out.

  • Do not return your Student ID.

After business hours:

Return your bedroom key and any temp cards in the resident mailroom located in the Tapestry building, next to the HI Desk.

  • Do not drop off your Student ID.

Can I access my space after I turn in my key?

No, you will not be able to access your building or reshall/apartment space after you have moved out and completed the check out process.
  • After you turn in your key, you are considered “moved out”.

2. Complete the Express Check-Out Form

Express Check-Out Form Opens May 29, 2026

Once you have fully vacated your space and are turning in your keys at the HI Desk, complete the Express Check Out Form in the HDH Undergrad Housing Portal, available beginning May 29, 2026.

  • Log in using your Single Sign-On credentials
  • Click on the “Express Check Out” link and complete the form. (Note: Failure to complete this form will result in an "Improper Check Out" and your student account may be charged.)

Tips and Reminders

Cleaning your space

Before returning your key, make sure you have all belongings removed, all trash and recycling thrown out, surfaces wiped down, and floors cleaned.
  • You can purchase cleaning supplies at the on-campus Target, some at the Sixth Market, or order from Amazon to do so.

All contracted students sharing a suite/apartment are responsible for cleaning the common spaces (e.g., all students are expected to share the responsibility of cleaning the common-use spaces interior to their suite or apartment)

  • Shared spaces must be cleaned by those in your suite or apartment.  Otherwise, each resident in the suite will be charged an improper move-out fee of $75.
  • Resident Assistants will be checking the cleanliness of the common space during your scheduled move-out time.
  • More information can be found at our FAQ page.

Damages in your space

If there is a damage and you're unsure if you may be charged for it or not:
    • When in doubt, file a fix it request! Unless the damage is extensive, expensive, dangerous or unreasonable, in most cases, HDH will not charge you ONLY IF you submit requests PRIOR to you checking out.

I left items behind, can I come back and get them?

  • No. Once you move out and complete the check-out process, you are not allowed back in. It is essential to collect ALL of your belongings prior to leaving.
  • Any personal items left behind will be inventoried, bagged, and stored by HDH Custodial.  This may take up to 2 weeks following closing.  After that time, you will have up to 90 days after your move-out date to claim your property. Contact sixthrlstaff@ucsd.edu to arrange a time to come collect them.
