First-Year Student Orientation

Welcome to Sixth College! We are so pleased you have decided to join the Sixth College community at the University of California San Diego. The faculty, students, and staff are proud to welcome you as a member of the most innovative college at UC San Diego.

From May through September, you will receive emails with important information and approaching deadlines. Be sure to check your UC San Diego email account regularly. Follow the timeline below for important dates and deadlines.

Registration for Orientation itself will be done on the College Orientation Registration site (opens mid-May).

It is critical that you adhere to the timeline below in order to ensure a smooth transition to UC San Diego. This timeline provides information about registering for the Sixth College Online Orientation, and a detailed list of steps you will need to follow to receive academic advising and to successfully enroll in courses for the Fall quarter.

International Students

If you are a new incoming International Student, some additional programs may be required.

Please note: Sixth College reserves the right to use any photograph/video taken at Orientation, without the expressed written permission of those included within the photograph/video. Sixth College may use the photograph/video in publications or other media material produced, used or contracted by Sixth College including but not limited to: websites, brochures, invitations, newspapers, magazines, etc.

To ensure the privacy of individuals and children, images will not be identified using full names or personal identifying information without written approval from the photographed subject, parent, or legal guardian.

Registration

Students will register for the Online Orientation on the College Orientation Registration site, which will open mid-May. Orientation fees will be charged to your student account and should appear on either the September or October billing.

What to Expect

Sixth College is so excited to welcome our newest first-year class! We have a great program prepared for our residential and commuter students so they can make the most of their time at Sixth and meet people who could be lifelong friends.

Schedule & Content

Sixth College’s First Year Student Orientation Program consists of online modules and virtual sessions. Attending both components are essential to your success at UC San Diego and Sixth College.

The Online First Year Student Orientation is designed to introduce you to the staff, students, and culture of Sixth College. Modules cover various topics, including Academic Advising, engaging with your Sixth community, CAT (the Sixth College writing course), and opportunities for student involvement and leadership. You will also learn how to successfully manage common issues related to transitioning to life as a college student.

Virtual Student Programming is an opportunity for you to meet your Orientation Leader, interact with other Sixth College students, and participate in community building activities.

Students will be sent instructions to their ucsd email address on how to access the online Orientation Modules 1-2 weeks before.

Move-In

Students who have a housing contract will need to email the Sixth College Residence Life office at sixthrlstaff@ucsd.edu for more detailed move-in information.

Smoking

Please be advised that as of September 1, 2013 UC San Diego is a smoke-free campus. Visit http://smokefree.ucsd.edu/ for more information.

Important Dates

First-Year Student Orientation is a mandatory online program, consisting of online modules AND virtual sessions with Orientation staff. Attending the New Student Orientation Program is essential to your success at UC San Diego and Sixth College. There is also an online optional Parent and Family Orientation. Attendance is encouraged for parents and/or guardians.

Parents & Families

Sixth College provides an optional online Parent and Family Orientation program. The program is entirely separate from First-Year Student Orientation. Find more information about the Parent/Family Orientation.

2021 Incoming First Year Student Timeline

When What
Do it NOW
  • Accept your Offer of Admission with the UC San Diego Admissions Office.
  • Review the Math Placement and UC Entry Level Writing Exam information. Depending on your choice of major, you may need to review the Chemistry Placement and the Language Placement websites. You need to complete these requirements as soon as possible and before course enrollment begins.
  • Activate your UC San Diego email account by visiting http://acms.ucsd.edu. All official University correspondence, including your course enrollment, will be sent to your UC San Diego email ONLY. UC San Diego email is the University's official method of communication.
  • Review the Hepatitis B Hold and provide UC San Diego with proof of immunization as soon as possible.
  • Submit your application for on-campus housing.
May 17
  • Go to the Campus Card Office website for information on how to submit your ID card photo online.
  • The New Triton Advising site opens! Here you will need to input your Academic Information before the June 17 deadline.
  • The COMPASS Pre-Orientation site opens! Complete the online module before the July 30 deadline.
  • The College Orientation Registration site opens! Register for Orientation before the July 30 deadline. After this date a $25 late fee will be assessed.

May - Early July

  • Request your official high school transcript, any college transcripts, and any AP/IB scores are sent to the UC San Diego Admissions office.
  • Verify that your junior year (or prior) AP/IB scores are sent.
June 17

July 1

  • Postmark deadline to submit high school and college transcripts (if applicable) to the UCSD Admissions Office.
July 30
August 1
  • Deadline to submit your ID card photo online to the Campus Card Office.
  • Deadline to complete the Online Training Programs through EverFi that have been assigned to you on Tritonlink. Failure to do so will result in a hold being placed on your student account that will prevent you from enrolling in classes.

  • Login into Tritonlink to find your enrollment appointment time

August 18-20
  • Online enrollment period begins for First-Year Students
