Student Spotlight on Carol Feucht Winter 2007

The first student spotlight of the New Year features Carol Feucht. Carol is a Sixth College Junior from Glendale, California.

Favorites:

• Music: Lately I've been listening to a lot of female-fronted bands like Le Tigre, Mates of States, Metric, Tilly and the Wall, etc.
• Movie: Edward Scissorhands
• Food: The high-carb type
• Book: I have a few, but for now I'll say "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster.

Interests: An easier question to answer might be, "What am I not interested in?" I have a particularly strong affection for cleaning (as odd as it sounds), recycling and reusing (Check out Carol in the news!), public transportation-inspired adventures, board games, and writing. I also enjoy watching and playing sports, even though I'm not too athletic. I had fun playing intramural soccer and intramural softball last year, even as my teams were usually losing. I'm really more of sports fan (especially of baseball and tennis) than an athlete.

What's your current or intended major? Urban Studies and Planning with a minor in International Studies.

What do you want to do as an intended career after graduation? Transportation Planner.

What student organizations or groups are you involved in? Habitat for Humanity and Sixth College Ambassadors.

What's your favorite memory of Sixth College or moment at Sixth College? CAT all-nighters freshman year. I could always tell if a CAT paper was due because all the lights in the res halls would be on at 4 a.m. On the eve (or morning of) a CAT deadline, I would occasionally take a walk around the quad at 4 a.m., and several times I actually ran into my friends, usually with Red Bulls in hand. There was also that one random thundershower where Camp Snoopy flooded, the thunder shook so hard it caused the car alarms to go off, and everyone went nuts. People started playing mud football and running around in their swimsuits. It was pretty chaotic and pretty awesome.

Who are your role models/ heroes? My older sister Laura has probably been my biggest influence. Many of my idiosyncrasies and my values are stimulated from growing up with her. I'd say that all my friends and family are also my heroes. I could name at least one admirable quality for each friend and family member that makes me look up to him or her.

If you could give one piece of advice to other Sixth College students, what would it be? Passion will get you further than perfection. Get Involved and find something you're passionate about. College isn't just about getting straight A's and academics. It's about finding yourself.

Why do you love Sixth College as much as you do? We live in cabins. It's like we're in camp. I really miss living in the res halls because I could never be stressed out when I lived there. I'd come back to my dorm after a grueling day of classes and see people sunbathing on the lawn, playing kickball, and playing the guitar outside. It's also neat to see faculty and staff out there mingling with us. Who knew Peter John liked to throw frisbees? Who knew the Sixth staff would make such aggressive dodgeball players? There's no way this was school. I still like to walk through the quad and hang out with my RA friends there. I'm glad to know those rock tables live on.
